Portrait of Joshua Cordeal

The Artist

Joshua Cordeal is a fine artist and tattooist based in Chattanooga, TN. Self-taught and shaped by more than a decade of experience, his work spans the worlds of black and gray realism and introspective, emotionally-charged drawing.

His black and gray realism tattoos carries an attention to texture, light, and shadow that elevates even the smallest pieces into something sacred and deeply personal. Joshua believes that the body, like paper or canvas, holds space for transformation.

Alongside his tattoo practice, Joshua creates visual expressive art that explores themes of memory, intimacy, and the complexity of being seen. Much of his recent fine art is inspired by the aesthetics of Shibari, a Japanese rope art form he studies not for spectacle, but for its quiet, expressive power. Through careful arrangement of line, form, and restraint, Shibari becomes a visual language—one that speaks of connection, vulnerability, and emotional architecture.

Whether on skin or paper, Joshua’s work invites pause. It’s an ongoing exploration of presence—of how we carry our stories, and how art can help us hold them.
